Which Gearbox Oil Type? - 2006 1.8 VVTi Manual

Hi, I'm trying to determine which type of gearbox oil to use in the manual gearbox of a T25 2006 1.8 VVTi.

According to the owner's manual the grade should be: 75W90 API GL4/GL5

But should this be semi-synthetic or fully synthetic? I can't find an answer anywhere, parts suppliers list both as being suitable.

Thanks

Chris

Either will be OK.  Be sure the oil specification specifically includes GL-4 (even if it states GL-5).

Hi,

I can recommend to you to get Castrol , been using it in the past in few manual cars and it was really good. This is the type for you:

Hi,

Im in the process of changing my tranny oil this week.
My manual seems to mention to us 75w oil.

I had a new (refurb) gearbox fitted in 2018.
I have used 75w90, through the life of the gearbox. But it has developed crunching when downshifting to 2nd gear over the past 6 months. Upon googling and forum research, it has been mentioned to use LV 75w. After looking in my manual, it confirms exactly that.

I wonder if the failure of my first gearbox was due to incorrect oil after a clutch change. The patterns seem to add up.
