Solar trickle charger

Hi all,as im disabled and havnt left the house in 4 weeks,im starting to worry about my Battery giving out because of lack of use,and it seems now its going to be quite a while before I can drive my iq again.So Ive just brought a Sealey 12v solar trickle charger,but i forgot the cigarette socket in the iq goes off with the ignition🙄So could anybody point me in the right direction as to get the power into the car without soldering or going through the bulkhead ,ive looked around and found an ecu emergency power memory saver lead and I have a lighter socket outlet which i can solder to the red and black leads removing the crock clips,would this do the job for me?Any replies would be much appreciated.

Is your car parked close to mains power? If yes, I would recommend a ctek charger (click on link)

You attach flying leads (which includes a socket at the end) to your Battery, then just plug the ctek charger into the socket whenever you want to use it.

It can be left connected long term and provides a 'float' charge which maintains your Battery ready for use.

Hi Dave,cheers for the quick reply,unfortunately my car is parked across the road to my home,so no power which is a shame because the ctek looks perfect.

I would not think its a good idea to be supplying power directly into the OBD2 port, I would not think that would be safe for the car, I think you need to think of a solution that is connected directly to the Battery, if its not going to be in use for a long time, can you not just disconnect one of the Battery terminals as the Battery will keep its charge if its not connected.

You could always get something like one of these jump start kits if you are worried about it not starting.

But the problem is if you disconnect the Battery then you loose ecu data and other problems arise,but I think Ive found the solution!! hopefully😶

That looks a good solution. If you also get a volt meter to plug into the cigar lighter socket, you can check that the solar panel is working and that the Battery is actually maintaining its level.
