SR180 Fuel Pressure Issues

Since having had the car serviced about a month ago the dashboard has been stating 'check VSC' and occasionally has been going into limp mode.  The garage claim it's nothing they could have done which seems fairly reasonable (I have checked the electrical connectors incase any have been knocked loose since) and to prove it they connected some diagnostics kit into the OBD port which reported back 3 diagnostic error codes - 0087, 0191 and 0192.  All of which point to low fuel pressure.

For a few weeks the car was actually working fine with the dashboard not complaining about anything but today things went completely Pete Tong!  Dreaded VSC error came back and this time the rev counter was dancing around all over the place, car stuttering and then cut out and struggled to start.  It did this a few times this morning so don't think I can procrastinate the issue anymore!

Has anyone else had fuel rail pressure issues before?  I have not changed the fuel filter for a couple of years (about 20k miles ago) although I will replace this at the next service but doubt changing this right now would fix these dramatic symptoms.  I have a tuning chip which has been running at a low setting for quite some time instead of favouring power as it boosted my economy from 32mpg to 41mpg (on a good day - Lord knows how some of you are getting a lot more than this).  I will probably remove it from the car completely to eliminate this as a possible factor.  Hope it is not the fuel pump which would definitely be an expensive fix.  Suction control valve related perhaps?

Definitely check connections on your tuning box as I suspect it fits between the fuel pressure sensor feeds, as the common link on all 3 DTC is a circuit issue on the fuel pressure sensor wires, in fact P0192 is specifically an electrical fault, if the connections appear fine then perhaps bypass the Tuning kit and see if the fault goes

P0087
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
After idling for 60 seconds, repeat quick engine speed accelerations (to 2500 rpm) for 30 seconds Fuel pressure sensor output voltage stays at fixed value for 90 seconds.
(1 trip detection logic)
  1. Open or short in fuel pressure sensor circuit
  2. Fuel pressure sensor (common rail)
  3. Ran out of fuel
  4. Fuel frozen
  5. ECM

P0191
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Idling for 1 second The difference between the main and sub voltage outputs of the fuel pressure sensor is 0.04 V or less, or 1.06 V or higher for 1 second or more.
(1 trip detection logic)
  1. Open or short in fuel pressure sensor circuit
  2. Fuel pressure sensor (common rail)
  3. ECM

P0192
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON for 1 second Fuel pressure sensor output voltage is 0.55 V or less for 0.5 seconds.
(1 trip detection logic)
  1. Open or short in fuel pressure sensor circuit
  2. Fuel pressure sensor (common rail)
  3. ECM

HINT:

Trouble areas are related to the electrical system only (pumps are not involved)

Thanks for the reply.  I took the tuning chip off.  One of the connectors actually had a fair bit of water in it - not sure how that would of got there?  Anyway, wiped it dry and cleaned the area a bit and took it for a spin to the shops and all seemed fine and no errors.  I presume the ingress of water was causing shorting issues but will let it run without the chip especially as we can't drive very much now anyway.
