2005 avensis indicator lights wont turn turn off after locking

Hi All,

i am new here , and have introduced myself in the new members section.

i have a 2005 petrol 1.6 avensis - its the family car.

i do a lot of the basic maintenance on it myslef but it has had a few big jobs - this past year its had a new engine, and 2 years ago a clutch and gearbox, i have put 2 2nd hand starter motors in it but we love it.

anyway for the past few years we noticed this problem and its slowly getting worse.

when we lock the car and the indicator lights flash one side front and rear and side would stay on, so we would have to unlock and re lock to make it go out, and sometimes this would take a few goes.that was what it was like when we first spotted it, then we wouldnt happen again for a while and then it would happen again, my wife was aligning it to bad weather or washing the car, or the winter time, but now we are at the stage where its happening all the time intermittently, but where it was always the drivers side, it now varies from the drivers side to the passenger side , to both being on and staying on, my wife is now going through a ritual when this happens of opening and closing doors and locking and unlocking and also turning on the hazrds and off again, sometimes this will hapen when we unlock the car, and you end up driving with one of the indicators on on one side or the other, and when you use the indicator then the relay clicks fast like it would if the bulb was blown.

my question - has anyone else experienced this and what is the fix - is it a faulty relay or is it a wiring loom issue/ bad connection somewhere?

thanks and hope you all can help, as once this is sorted i need to replace the radio/CD/Tapedeck and put a new head unit and spacer in, as the CD player isnt working, and the radio wont stay on station anymore...then i need to regas the Aircon.
