Hey guys,

recently bought old E12 2003. I want to upgrade the radio in car, although the stock one is showing the fuel consumption as well, which is quite essential reading for me. Do you have any ideas, how to get new aftermarket radio inside with possibility to check fuel consumption? I've been looking on the internet and couldn't find any solutions.

Thank you very much, have a nice day!

Its not easy thing to do, the function is built into the head unit, its even worse on newer cars as systems are more integrated and a lot more complicated

you could go with an odb2 gauge/smartphone app

eg. https://www.scangauge.com/products/scangauge-ii/

Hi,

Have found that the mpg figures from the radio display can be very misleading / inaccurate  at times.

A much better way is to fill your tank up to the brim each time, using the trip meter to keep track of the miles you have done, so its easy to take the number of ltrs you bought /miles done  to work out the real mpg.

Have alway found it much more accurate than what the radio unit says, plus it keeps your eyes on th road not on distracting screens.

Never heard of any modern head unit able to accept Toyotas mpg info.

Allso relevant, you want to see the other recent threads  ( last month or so ) on fitting new head units and the possible problems in getting the steering wheel radio controls to interface.

Alright, I will just buy new radio and calculate it myself. Thanks for encouraging me to doing this 😄

Be interesting to see if you get simliar reading to me  as mine is the same 3ZZ engine,, typically 40mpg , 38mpg in winter, 42mpg in summer.

Well worth looking at the recent posts on fitting radio, single or double din,  standard head units or andriod units.

I still have the standard radio, but upgraded the front Speakers which included little tweeters mounted to near the dash,  a great sound improvement.

That's quite low fuel consumption, I get around 8.5 l/100 km with E10 fuel and around 8.1 l/100 km with E5. My friend recommended me some "VIF super benzin additiv", he claims that it lowers fuel consumption and cleans the fuel system, so I'm gonna give it a try. Also, I got the car from second hand recently, so I need to check engine further. I've found some 2DIN Android car radio suitable directly to my Corolla on Aliexpress. I also asked seller about the SWC and says that it supports the SWC, so I'm gonna buy it next month.

Here's a link, you can take a look:

Let me know, what you think about it. Also, thank you for the links you've sent me.

Hi,

Our engines are ok for E10 fuel,

E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Toyota European petrol models made from January 1998,excluding:

Avensis 2.0 litre with engine 1AZ-FSE made between July 2000 and October 2008.

Avensis 2.4 litre with engine 2AZ-FSE made between June 2003 and October 2008.

Seems your usage is about 33 mpg which is not unusual if you are heavy footed or doing a lot of stop start city driving .

Those links seem to be using an Android unit like the one you show, but check those links because seems the Pre Face Lift models ( pre 2004) have different steering wheel control circiutry which they say needs an adapter board for the steering controls to work with those Android units.

The sellers info, might just be for the Post Facelift models 2004-7

Sure, but it increases my fuel consumption. Well, I drive daily like 10 km each way to work and I spend daily like 10 minutes in traffic jam, so no wonder that it's so high. Occasionally driving fast with heavy foot, so I guess it's normal and adequte to my driving style. About the SWC, it's not that essential for me. I'm used to manually change songs at the radio from previous car.
