Hi all, 

picking up a 2005 2.2 d-4d t4 this weekend, I’ve had enough of van life and need something Japanese again. Am I correct in saying this is a chain motor?

Yes, the 2.2 diesel is chain cam. 

I hope you have read about the engine on this forum, and paid a good price for the car.

Sensible price for the car, hopefully it’ll keep me mobile, plenty of service history for the necessary work,

I’ve had a read, seems a pretty reliable car, am I right in saying it’s non dpf due to 2005?

It depends on which version of the engine you have. The 150 version 2AD-FTV does not. 180 HP version 2AD-FHV, also Badge as D-CAT, will have a DPF.   

I have never owned or even been in any of the diesels, only 1.8 petrol engine of every Avensis made, so my info is what I know. It's best tohear from somebody who has experienced your version of the car.
One heads up is to keep an eye on the coolant and engine temperature. There have been some instances of  head gasket problems, especial with the higher power versions!

Collected it today, drives very smooth, 150bhp version with great history, long drive tomorrow for work so I’ll see how it really runs, I’ll get some photos up as well

Just a quick one, the D-4D Badge and engine cover has the last D in black, what do the colours mean?

As far as I remember, green means DPF. That could be just the D4D sign on the engine cover, though. Not sure if the bodywork D4D sign is green.
