Hi all,

I've have an issue with my Engine Management Light staying on. (Orange) The car starts most of the time every now and then the car wont start with the Battery light and engine light coming on, after it starting there is a rough idle and it cuts out but is usually fine once a few revs have gone through. The engine warning light is permanently on now. I have check the Air filter which seems fine and tightend the petrol cap which hasn't resolved the issue. I am wanting to clean the ERG valve but i don't know where it is located, if anyone has done this with success i'd like to know or would you not recommend this? please help? jay

  • 2 weeks later...

You will need a code reader to see what the fault codes are and go from there.

You must make sure the Battery is 100% fully charged and as above have the codes read and go from there rather than guessing what's wrong.

Process of elimination...guessing can be expensive so a code read would help.

Potential culprits.?...failing coil pack/plug....O2 sensor....MAF sensor

Thinking further Jay... I don't think your motor has an EGR valve.

If you don't have access to technical info you should buy a Haynes manual, theres one for the mk1 Yaris, book code 4265, new usually under £20 from Haynes but s/h cheaper on line.

Not a page turner exactly but v. useful.

re code readers   Foxwell NT200 is under£40 on line , bargain for  less than an oil change.

or                Foxwell NT680 Lite4   £200 from Halfords I believe which is obvs more powerful.

As said best to have some pointers to the problem before replacing costly parts

Also not rec to run the motor if it is suffering misfires
