I hope to have delivery of a 2005 Corolla Colour Collection on Tuesday.  Have found it difficult to buy, since no transport, and few prepared to deliver.

A couple of questions: 1) The car has done 123k and just wondered what is the average life of a clutch, and cost 2) Have checked and there seems to be a recall outstanding, but have no details. Dealers are waiting until end of CORVID 3) My research says that from 2000 - 2005, 1.4 VVT-i were subject to oil consumption, but was fixed mid 2005. Any information. 4) Last MOT advisory mentioned oil leak. Dealer says loose pipe and has been fixed. Is this common 5) Another advisory play in steering rack joint. Any ideas.

That's all for now. Looking forward to being an owner. I have found these web clubs invaluable with other cars owned.

Thanks for your help, Phil Robinson

Hi,

Buying blind by the sound of it, always a bit risky, though is it from a dealer with some warranty or a private seller ?

1. Clutch life, a piece of string thing:smile:, possibly been replaced already ?  did mine at 80k miles.  Cost at a private garage  around £300+, though check with your Toyota delaer if one local  to you ?

2.The recall is probably the passenger air bag that affects many cars of many makers wordlwide, again check with your local Toyota dealer when you have the Reg and Vin numbers who can check to see exactly whats needed.

3. FrostyBalls, above,  is the man to confirm the details, but believe if was 2005 when it was fixed on the production line, but it depends on when your 2005 registered car was actually made ? Has it suffered from the problem  ?  Was it fixed by the dealer ?  Far too late for any  claim  to be done by Toyota if you have such a problem now.  Believe up to 1 ltr of oil  per 1,000 miles was considered acceptable,  though mine does 10k miles +  on well under 1 ltr.

4.  No idea what oil pipe that is ?  the only occasional  oil leak  mentioned in the forum seems to be the rocker cover gasket, but that a commom problem on many cars.  Steering rack joint , usually means a replacement rack  as its almost a sealed unit unless you have a very competant mechanic and can get the parts.

Hope its a good one for you  -
