Whining Sound

Guys,

I have an annoying whining sound (like an dodgy alternator bearing - but that's brand new, so it's not that). I orignaly thought it could be the air con pump, but found out that has an electro magnetic clutch, not a drive belt.

Anyone had a water pump make a whining sound? I'm pretty certain it's nothing serious as the motor is really fit and makes loads of power with no problems. It's just getting on my nerves, coz I can't hear the turbo spin up as well!

Answers on a postcard

An overtight alternator belt would cause a whining... an 'undertight' alternator belt would cause a screeching under load.

Just a thought.

possably water pump bearing or alt belt idler pulley, remove alternator belt and spin pulleys by hand, failing that its going to be timing belt covers off......

Cheers for the reply's guys,

If it stops raining this weekend (and I can be bothered to drag my a** out of bed after working a 12 shift) I'll get the engine cover up and check it out. ;)
