Need a cheap car to use when I sell my van in July, so started to look around now, as sods law is that nothing will be available at the time.

And within a few days up popped an Avensis on another forum. Photos and description sounded fine, MOT'd to Feb 2021, so, after 7 (or was it 9?) weeks in isolation,  I bought it. I then travelled 240 miles by train to collect it. Trains were earily quiet.

Met the seller at the station car park, we exchanged plesantries at the socially acceptable distance, and, after wiping down the steering wheel and switches, I drove it the 240 miles home.

Engine is quiet with no rattles, even at 179,000 miles. Clutch is light, gearchange is good, brakes as they should be. No knocks or bangs from the suspension. In built sat nav works fine (if a little complicated to set up), as does the Parrot phone kit, stereo and reversing sensors, and the air con blows ice cold.

In the recent past it has had a new exhaust, new discs and pads, new Kleber yres and a new front spring. Body is good apart from both rear arches having a few scrapes, but no rust anywhere.

£430 for a 55 plate car in this condition-would never have guessed I could get so much for so little.
