Hi everyone! I got a Yaris 07 with the 3 cyl 1KRFE. It has started making a rattling noise when under load and trying to find anything helpful to solve the problem. The noice is metallic and only at higher gears 4th , 5th. The engine sounds okey idling so I think the timing chain is ok.

Things I replaced/tested:

Gearbox oil

Vvt solenoid and filter

Clutch and throw out bearing

Higher octane fuel

Exhaust manifold gasket

Heat shields

Knock sensor

Im thankful for every advise I can get from you guys! //Oliwer

Found a soundfile on a forum with the same rattle as I got:

Have you checked the engine and gearbox mountings?

I've checked the mounts in the engine bay but not the support mount that is under the engine. Thanks :)

There is so much wind noise in that clip its hard to tell

is the noise only there when the car is moving ? or is there if you rev the car

did you do a full fluid change on the gearbox or just top it up ?

It's only when the car is moving, tried to replicate the sound with hood open but it didn't work. The engine is changed ,the old one got rod knock because lack of oil. So when putting the new one in I installed new clutch kit, water pump and gearbox oil, the transmission did sound normal with the old engine so I think it's not the problem. The sound is loud from the outside so thinking if I could rent a GoPro to place somewhere in the engine bay to catch it better.

If its only when in gear its related to the power train, i would drop the gearbox oil and see if it's got any metal flake in it, 5th gear is the first one to show problems as its at the end of the gearbox up high the lack of oil kills the synchro

i assume you have checked the wheel bearings for play

Put my phone in the engine bay. The actual sound starts at 2 mins. Sorry for the wind noise. For me it sound like something related to the serpentine belt.

Sounds to me like a combination of wide valve clearances (general engine noise) and timing chain touching side of timimg chain cover...due to worn timing chain. or worn tensioner..a swishing type of metal running over metal

Okey, it sounds normal when idling and I've listen with a screwdriver on the timing chain cover but I can't hear anything. But I guess it is a timing chain kit I'll start to replace if I can't find anything else.
