Hi ,I want to change the gear stick top the bit that has the 1-6 gears / reverse on it and has a chrome rim .Is there a proper way of removing it ? ,what I don't want to do is to cause any damage other than removing the top bit and fixing a new one.

Thanks

They're normally screwed on, just grip the gear knob and twist anti clockwise to remove.

Would that be for the very top piece ? ,I don't want to take the whole knob off.

Its part of the knob tbh, just replace the whole knob

Thanks Bob

The thing is ,you can buy the top part from the main agent without buying the whole knob .I would have thought that if this top piece can be replaced on its own , why buy the whole knob.

Thanks

They are usually stuck down, a spudger or a teaspoon may do the trick warming it with a hairdrier may help,  tbf there are so many types these days

Edit. found another design the cap is held by a screw from inside the knob

Are they in stock ? Some trim parts show as available but are not

Hey, did you end up buying the replacement gear knob, and was it just a case of unscrewing the existing one from the whole thing?
