hello everyone,

I need some advise please regarding my Yaris which is from 2002 which is 1.0. I've been given this as a first car and have no clue in general about cars.

The engine bay has gaps underneath where you can see the floor, is this normal or is it missing something? if it is, then what is it and what sort of cost am i looking at? (i've attached pictures of it.

The car has a tape player and not a cd player so any idea how i can play my music from the phone? any other mods you guy can think of that i can do to this car? it's a 3 door and will be just by my self.

Engine bay is normal! You can buy a cassette adaptor off eBay that will allow you to plug in your phone to play music. Top tip is change the oil and filter straight away and every year if you do lowish miles.

It looks very clean and tidy under the bonnet but as an old car will benefit a bit of TLC.

Check the condition of the tyres and that pressures are correct, also the spare wheel in the boot

check you have the wheel brace(spanner fot the wheelnuts), the jack and the jack handle

check and refill if needed the radiator and the screen wash bottle

check and refill if needed the brake fluid and clutch fluid

check the brake lights work and the indicator bulbs are all ok

There have been problems noted about the bonnet catch sticking, jamming or coming loose. You should give it a good oiling with an oil can or spray (not WD40 but oil) to avoid any problems.

A workshop manual, about £18 new or a couple of £ used from e bay will help you understand what fluids to use, tyre pressures etc. It will also advise about how to change the oil filter and engine oil which as already suggested is essential on this engine.

Yes it is normal that this car does not have covers under the engine and is open to the road.

You should be good and safe to go to go when you have checked out these essentials. Good luck with it but any queries the forum here is always very good.
