Retrofit Reversing Camera

I am thinking of fitting a wireless camera and monitor to my 08 Avensis and if that is a success to our old Yaris. The car is fitted with a reversing sensor but I fancy a camera having nearly run over an elderly chap who chose to bend down and tie his shoe lace up behind me in a supermarket car park. The reverse sensor sounded, I could see nothing, looked around and waited a little. I had just decided the sensor was responding to the cars close to the sides when he stood up as I started to back out (yes I know, I do normally reverse in).

It all looks straightforward, connect the camera power to the reversing light feed, connect the display to something live with the ignition on and the wireless connection eliminates any wires difficult to route. Is there anything I should be thinking about before I buy one of these gadgets?

You can get double duty Dashcam units at Halfords and other places, and some built into the rear-view mirror. Otherwise just think of where to mount the screen and possibly how to keep it out of direct sunlight.

Thanks-some seem to clip over the rear view mirror and some have a seperate display unit. Over the rear view mirror I am not sure if the rear view is permanetly display and a seperate unit where to mount it?

Does double duty mean front and rear cameras?

Pretty much, yes. Some of them have the facility to plug in the reverse cam. I am not sure if they use that for rear recording, though. The units I had been looking at in Halfords were probably Nextbase ones, so check Halfords or the Nextbase websites for ideas.
