Avensis auto self levelling system for lights

Hi everyone,

Got the 2.4 auto estate which has just failed its Swedish bilprovning (MOT) as the dipped beams were too low. My car has the automatic headlight levelling system. Turns out the plastic connecting rod from the sensor which attaches to the rear suspension has sheared (see pic).  Toyota won’t sell just that part, only a complete sensor kit and it’s 4000 kr before labour (well over £300).  Great!  Has anyone had this issue and know of a cheaper fix? Have looked online and can’t find the rubber rod anywhere.  It’s position is on the right hand side of the rear axle.

Thanks if anyone can offer any advice.

These are a frequent failure item and readily available on the aftermarket for about £35.  Here is one from a seller in Finland which might help you,

eBay item no.  202994232870

Ah thank-you, that’s great, I guessed they must be a frequent failure item due to the position under the car. The replacement part looks different though (all metal), maybe it has been upgraded? I’ve emailed the seller about it.

Thanks again

The metal replacement is much better. The joints on the OE ones are not water-tight. They seize up and then the plastic rod snaps.
