I would take it to a local Toyota dealer, it should still be under warranty

iirc Ireland only get 2 years warranty (3 with Toyota)

the back-up lights run through the integration relay (fuse box under the bonnet) what is controlled via the ecu in turn gets it information from the shifter

The OP is in Northern Ireland which is part of the UK. Cars sold new by Toyota GB will carry Toyota GB's 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty. Cars sold new by Toyota Ireland (in case the car was bought new from over the border) will carry the standard Toyota Europe new car warranty - 3 years/100,000km.

I’m a little confused Alan, you say in the post a 2018 Prius, yet under your profile name you state 2016 Prius??. As Frosty says if you bought the car in UK, it’s still under the warranty.

The profile needs updated, this is my 3rd Prius +

Our local dealer is not happy working on Taxi's they will find an excuse to charge

I was trying to sort this my self that;s why i went on the forum.would have thought it was something that would have happened to others

Normally there's a switch for the reverse light connected to the gearbox or linkage in some way, though I have no idea how this is done on the Prius as the transmission is controlled electronically.

see my post above

@plasmacars check the fuses on the integration relay under the bonnet (just behind the headlight iirc)

Thanks i will have another check. Spoke to a friend {Lexus master tech} who asked a few Toyota guys they say check the wiring around the rear camera for corrosion, it is a bit of a problem on Aygo and Yaris. But they never heard of this fault on a Prius+. The indicator on the dash shows it in reverse but the rear light isn't on or camera.

Problem solved

Car spent two weeks in dealer then a other week in an auto electrician. No fix

Took it to a Hybrid specialist, four hours later he called all fixed.

A looses connector in back of fuse box

Glad you finally  got it sorted Alan, I hope that Toyota provided a courtesy car for the three weeks you were inconvenienced.
