so i fo the compression test today 3 times on each cylinder and get this:

1 58psi

2 78psi

3 75psi

4 30psi

heres some pics from todays affair......

im not sure if the red coloring from excessive heat is due to a prolonged condition or a one time thing.

one lifter was loose, had minimal play but play none the less and one valve had play in it, i grabbed em all to see if they were loose or anything and one wiggled a lil bit, enough for me to feel but nothin like nuts on a coffee can.

whats ya'lls thoughts?

posible bent valves only real way to check for sure is head off as you have 30psi on #4 cyl this seems a bit low

twincams are non-interference though... <phew>

not sure about the SOC, try posting on www.twincam16.com I know its not a twincam but the guys there are really helpful.

Sorry to say youy can't carry out a compression test with a broken cam belt, as some of the valves will be open and will say open ( from when the belt snapped ).

And to confirm the 4A is a safe engine :D :D :D .

  • 3 weeks later...

aligned the cam and crankshaft on top dead center(#1 piston and on compression) then attached the cam belt while youre at it check your water pump if it is still good it is better to replace now than later when it leaks. to minimize your work
