Hi All

Off to collect my new Corolla Design TS in a few days so am currently looking for a Front and Rear Dash Cam solution but am picking up noise concerning DAB Radio problems from the rear camera? Some users fit ferrite rings on rear camera cable with variable success so am looking for some advice please?

Many thanks, stay safe!

Hi i have  a front and rear Dashcam fitted to my Corolla hatchback and i have no problem with the dab radio or satnav  signals. The Dashcam is a Nextbase 422GW and a nextbase  rear camera. The front camera is hardwired to the fusebox under the glovebox using the 12v power socket fuse and the rear camera is powered by the front camera. I did try a Blackvue Dashcam but i had problems with the camera taking 10 to 15 minutes for the camera start recording. Which Blackvue said it was a common problem with hybrid.

I have an Aukey front and rear cam in my '19 Corolla Hybrid Saloon. No issues with either the cam or the tech within the car.

I also have the Nextbase 422GW with rear camera add on. Fitted by Toyota dealer and hardwired into the system I know not where. No problem at all with it interfering with other equipment in the vehicle. A very good Dashcam too.

I had the Nextbase 380GWX + rear cam bundle fitted by the dealer (hardwired). No problems with interference etc and a pretty high quality image.  I've messed about and downloaded a couple of clips via wifi hotspot to my phone in-car but it's far easier and quicker to remove the micro SD card and load straight to computer.  As it was fitted after the PDI but before collection I had various footage from inside the workshop and when it was moved to the collection bay😀

I have an Excel TS with Nextbase 522GW + rear camera hardwired to fusebox under the glove box using the 12v outlet fuse. The rear camera cable runs down the right hand side of the car above doors into and into the tailgate via the right hand rubber duct then to the camera fitted to the top centre of the rear window. Dab and FM are almost unusable unless in very good signal areas unless I disconnect the rear camera at the main unit. I am in the process of fitting ferrite chokes to the rear camera cable but have not been out for a test drive yet. I’ll report back with progress soon.

My cable to the rear camera goes down the driver's side above the doors then though grubber duct to the tailgate  without any issues of with dab or satnav.

The wonders of modern technology. Fitted a choke at either end of the rear camera cable and problem solved. I suspect the differences that are being experienced are down to varying signal strengths around the country as DAB Is either good or bad with no gradual deterioration like FM.

Any idea where they hardwired it? From what I've read if you tap on the fuse box you won't be able to close to cover later on....

To be honest I've not actually bothered looking to see where it's wired to (the dealer brings in their own 'specialist' to do all web cam installation work for them). I've not noticed any loose covers when I've had the bonnet open, I'll have a closer look next time the bonnets up.

@Rambler56  I think most likely it is connected inside, rather than the engine compartment..

Mine is wired to the fuse box under the glovebox, very hard to get under there to see what you are doing. Pic with a mobile phone. The fuse box  cover does not go back on.

Hello Leo.

I bought a Corolla Touring Sports today, and after searching for how to self-fit a dash cam, I found all your posts and it seems I am walking in exactly your footsteps with the same queries and questions!

I am also looking to buy a Nextbase cam (the 522 probably) with the rear camera also.

My question for you is do I need to obtain the extra ‘micro’ fuse tap adapter to get this to work (hardwire) or do the ones provided in the Nextbase hard wire kit work? Because if so, I can save time buy requesting one now rather than later.

Also, is the issue around not being able to replace to fuse box cover insurmountable? Does this cause any issues? Is it visible? Can mud or dirt get in there?

Thanks!

Additional question, can the camera be wired into the fuse box under the bonnet, in the engine compartment? I presume there’s a second fuse box there?

Hi the Nextbase 522 should be fine if use it with the Nextbase rear camera which as a long cable to reach from the windscreen to the rear. You will also need a Nextbase hardwire kit and a micro sd card. The fuse box is under the glove box and you piggy back off the power socket fuse. The rear camera is powered from the front camera.

Thanks Leo.

what about the fuse tap? Does the one in the hardwire kit work, or did you need the micro 2 one to be sent from Nextbase support?

Posted

Hi the hardwire kit comes with a piggy back fuse so no cutting of wires .

And you only need

1 micro sd
