Fed Up With Lexus Dealer

Right :censor: off with my Lexus dealer.

Agreed a part ex price and my new car - I'm happy. I then get an e mail saying that because the colour combination I want in my new car is a 12 week wait my part ex will be worth £670 less - in other words if I still want to go ahead I need to cough up another £670.

Not doing it on principal alone (remember THEY can't get the car) ! !

So . . . what shall I go for now - looking to spend about £20 000 which is my car plus £9 000.

Rule 1.

must be reliable (I drive 60 miles a day and need to be at work by 5am)

Rule 2.

must be able to get 2 kids in the back occasionally

:help:

For 20k you could get yourself a nice 2nd hand BMW 330d or a 330d tourer  But you will then forget how to use your indicators  but they are nice cars

or see if you can get one of the audis

Don't fancy a beemer (image problems)

Did consider Audi and might look into it a bit more.

Wouldn't mind a C Class either if they could just bolt them together a bit better.

Any more . . . .

audi a4 sounds nice, turbo diesels are stormers if you opt to drop a chip into the ecu! destroys most hot hatches!

loads of room for the kids, shopping etc........

or....performance........4 doors........big boot..........jap reliability.......

I have to be honest SMW, I am getting annoyed with Lexus dealers at the moment.

It does seem they are the victim of their own success!! and all of a sudden they dont care about the customers anymore!!

Stay away from Merc if you want reliable. Audi is a good idea. What about a RX-8? nice coupe you can fit the kids in?

Celica perhaps? get a brand new t-sport??

Or

what about a Prius?

good thinking Ian

RX8 would be a very fine choice indeed, possible a tad too small for a family of four (they aint huge) but should just get by

corolla t-sport??? space..5 doors..fair boot..and a bit of go in them????

nah not a Corolla TS from a lex, bit of a downgrade really, jus go to a different lexus dealer my dad had to do that with toyota that thought 'hes an exsiting customer we'll take him for a mug and in the end he went to different dealer and saved £1k because they gave him 1k more for part ex,

Mercedes - Benz C240 / C320 or even a 270 CDI Avantgarde.

My bro has just bought a 1 year old C200 Kompressor with an AMG body kit and wheels, it knocks the socks of everything else it looks fantastic!

yep.. and it'll spend as much time in the garage as an alfa from what i've heard of Mercs recently!!!

Couple that with terrible customer service... you may as well stick with the Lex, at least you'll have to put up with the crappy service less often!

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have registered interest with other Lex dealers but they aren't even phoning me back (it's only 20 grand eh ?)

I like the idea of a G7 Celica although I don't know much about them - I guess I could probably get a T Sport ? ?

Corolla doesn't really float my boat.

RX8 - looks nice and goes like whoop but they are really juicy - I don't have the tech data but I seem to remember reading they do about 20 mpg  Also not keen on those wacky doors and, as mentioned, not excatly spacious in the back.

well, an RX-8 will be more spacious in the back than a Celica. Plus those doors will save the kids tramping over the seats to get in...

Of course, the fuel economy isn't that bad (about 30mpg), what is bad, is that it will drink as much oil as fuel!!

Gen 7 celica is a great car, handles well, you'll find the interior a bit plasticy after the lex, but certainly a consideration..

A BMW 3-series is a damn good car.. but could you really handle being a 'BMW' driver?

Audi are very good, the A4's are ace!

Honda accords are pretty good too, maybe a bit common for you though?

Just had a look at the RX8 fuel consumption on Mazdas site:

Urban 18.1 mpg

Extra Urban 32.5 mpg

Combined 25.2 mpg

ouch..

what about a Jag XK8, you can get a very nice example for 20 grand.. and if it would fit in the garage, i'd consider it!

Not a bad idea Ian (the XK8) - guess I'd be looking at a R or S plate ? ?

Have you looked into them ?

yeah, i was looking quite a lot at them, and still am.

For 20k, your probably looking at a 4.0 V8 coupe, 96/97, perhaps younger if you dont go near a Jag dealer..

Running costs are actually pretty good, you'll get average 22mpg (not bad for a 4.0 V8!), insurance group is 18, but quotes wernt too high for me! Services every 10k, similar pricing to the lex.. all in all, not bad for what your getting!

Plus, they are comfy as hell, great for distances... but best of all...

Used IS300 with toys ? ?

i thought you were fed up with Lexus?

I wouldnt buy a IS300, simply cos if i get another IS, why not save the money and stick with mine? I dont need the extra oomph, and its an auto box..

What about an Avensis?

Why not try a different dealer? I would never buy anything from Corrie Motors in Inverness because of their attitude - I go to Perth instead and easily save myself the diesel...

It's worth shopping around!

Trouble with Scoobys and Type R is that every Chav Scum Pikey thinks you want some.

That is simply not true, the reason why Mercedes are getting picked up on the build quality is because the old school W123’s W124’s old shape E-Class for you guys who don’t know what I am banging on about were just so bullet proof, they were totally over engineered.

Now days cost cutting is been implemented by every single manufacture including Mercedes-Benz meaning that, yes they are not quite built like they were in the olden days. If you still feel Mercedes are manufacturing poorly built cars I suggest you take a look at the new fact lift C-Class and when it arrives the new A-Class, which mark my words is going to set the standard for all new Hatch Backs!

The BMW 1 series will be knocked off the top of the tree only seconds after it got there!
