Hi I have a 2009 t27 d4d T2, estate. It is losing water. Not in oil. Or water pump but it does sound worn. I accept pump need replacing soon. There is cakey scally stuff around expansion tank. Could this be the problem. I just topped up and done 350mile journey and temp Goes up. By one above half temp. Been happening last month or so but can't spot any obvious leaks. Any advice appreciated.

If running a bit warmer than usual I would suspect head gasket. Do a sniff test for hydrocarbons over the expansion tank. A garage will do it cheaply or get a kit off Amazon.
