Kerbing

Hi all,

I bumped a fairly large kerb the other day in the middle of a u-turn. The tyre seems okay but the wheel trim is slightly bent in. Can I fix this myself or would you take it to a garage?

Also, how easy is it to mess up the wheel alignment by bumping a kerb? The steering seems fine at the moment but don't want to risk anything. The car is a 2001 Carlo Blue Yaris 1.3 GLS, with nearly 20,000 on the clock.

Thanks folks.

Does the car have alloys? or just trim? if it is the trim thats bent I dunno what you can do...bend it back? :P hehe

If you have scuffed the alloys.. then most places will repair alloys for about £50 each ...

Generally it depends on how hard you bumped the kerb... usually it wont do anything to the alignment..but if you are worried any decent garage will be able to check it for ya for next to nowt

trims are 2-15quid

balancing 2quid per wheel

tracking should be fine

you could have the wheel balanced for your own piece of mind but try taking it to 50mph ish and if the steering wheel vibrates then it will need doing. if it doesnt its fine

as for the trims lob them in the bin and get some alloy :P

seriously theyre only a bit of plastic, just pick up a new one if it sits on your mind

Thanks for the quick reply guys :) .

They are trims, I'm looking to get some alloys after the sting of my summer hols has worn off. Hopefully I'll be more careful with kerbs when I get alloys.
