Torque settings for Sump Plug Bolt

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anybody knew if there was a torque setting for the sump plug. I have seen some places after changing the engine oil they use the torque wrench to tighten the nut. Also do you have to prefill the new oil filter before installing it. I have a 2016 Avensis 2 litre diesel.  Any help will be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Misba.

I don't know the torque setting, but I use hand tight with a new fibre washer for my petrol Avensis. Don't use too much force because it will be hard to undo on next oil change, plus the threads could be stripped! You can get an idea by gauging how much force was used to undo the bolt, tighten, then see if you can match the first undo force. Use as a rough guide.
Since the engine is BMW sourced, see if there is any info on BMW sites.

Its 25Nm/18 ft.lb.  Replace the washer. With sump plugs I also put a couple of turns of PTFE plumbers tape. That guarantees no leaks.  You don't need to fill the filter.
