Tow Bar Cycle Carrier & Rear Parking Sensors

I've just done my first long distance drive (320 miles each way) with the cycle carrier on the tow bar.  The drive went well, happy with the car, but I discovered that the rear sensors are not deactivated when I connect the tow bar electrics, is this usual or is there a setting somewhere to switch them off (there is a warning message to turn off the warning sound when in reverse).  If I take my foot off the brake in reverse the emergency stop seems to kick in, but if I feather the brake the emergency stop does not kick in and the car will reverse normally, albeit slowly.

Parking sensors can be switched off via the settings menu on the Drivers speedo screen, scroll to settings look for a "P" with a radar like symbol and set to off
