Any kind of semi or fully synthetic will be fine!

Fully synthetic is more for high performance engines though!

What kind of oil engine can I put in VVT-I 1,6 ?

I would surely go for a fully synthetic oil! it helps in fuel consumption and makes the engine more responsive. Besides, it would be a pitty not tu use fully synth oil on an engine like Toyota's VVT-i. You should only mind what kind of synth oil to use, the grade i.e. Personally i would go for a 10-40W, but you better discuss that with your mechanic due to different weather conditions.

Mobil 1 is surely a good choice but it's pretty expensive, and i'm sure there are other oils that offer the same quality for a much cheaper price.

Keep in mind that engne oil is an extreemly important factor in your engine. Low quality oils might leave residue in your engine, like sludge :ffs: , and i'm surely u don't want that to happen!

Yep agreed again on this one. A fully Synth 10W-40 will be good. The 10 part refers to it's density. A 15W will be slightly thicker and likewise a 5W would be thinner. I have found that the thinner the oil the more the enige uses and the esier it is for it to leak through gaskets (not that this is common). IIRC, thicker oild will also opperate at higher temperatures.

Stay nicely in the middle (10W-40) - you can't go wrong

In my country Toyota service use Castrol TXT 5W-40 for 1,6VVT-i.

Depends your weather conditons corsol.

For example I live in Malta. Temperature here hardly ever gets below 9-10 deg in winter and in summer it goes up to a 40+ degrees. Therefore it does effect viscosity. As System G said, the less viscous the oil, the easier it burns and in case of old cars, it will manage to pass trough gaskets and seals and you see white exhaust coming out especially when u start the engine.

Around the US, Toyota recommends nothing but 5W-30 and 10W-30... And we have at least that much temperature variance (10°-40°) even here in sunny Southern California, known for its perpetual 21° temperatures. My '93 Corolla has 142,000 miles on it and burns a bit over a half a litre of Mobil 1 10W-30 oil every 5000 miles. Now, I have the chance to get free cases of Mobil 1 oil, which is a great thing, but the problem is that it's the 0W-40 (because it's from my friend, a Mercedes tech). I've run 0W-30 in my car without a problem (and it didn't seem to drink any more oil). I welcome anyone's thoughts or comments on using this in my car.

I have checked with my mate who happens to be a car mechanic with a craze for car oils, he probably dreams about them this guy...anyway...i therefore suggest to use 5W40 Fully Synthetic on all VVT-i engines. This will result in giving the car better response and fuel consumption. The level of oil will most probably go down after 5000Km by about 1/2 litre but since it's a fully synth it won't leave any residue and leaves the engine in tip condition.

i cant remember the exact numbers but when i was at college we had to do some work on oils and the numbers refer to the oils viscousity at certain temperatures so a 5w40 would act as a 5 rated oil at -17 degrees and as a 40 at +109(hence multi grade) or something like that, as i said its been a long time since i was taught all this so the numbers are almost definately wrong.
