Paintwork

Hi again,

Just bought a 1.3SR, second hand (I love it). The only thing is, they're too many scratches and stone chips (esp. on the bonnet) for my liking. I soon realised why the previous owners didn't clean it properly! I did spot a few when I first viewed the car, so I knocked £200 off the advertised price. But since cleaning and waxing the poor thing, I found loads more.

My questions:

* Has anyone had bad experiences with Yaris paintwork? i.e is the finish renowned for being poor with certain colours?

It seems to me that the paintwork is chipping and scratching to the base metal too easily.

* Can anyone recommend a good nationwide body shop to repair the damage?

The previous owner bought some factory paint, which I am due to collect but don't trust myself to do a good job.

Thanks.

My Yaris hasnt really chipped badly... or scratched overly easily... one or two here and there is about it... (Paint color = Flame Gold)

I did have some nasty scratches on the bumper from a collision with a low wall when I first passed my test....

Recently got them fixed to perfection by ChipsAway http://www.chipsaway.co.uk

I have to give em a  they did an amazing job

ive got a few scratches on the passenger side of mine.... on the door, not my fault though, must be other people when ive been parked up.. things like that ***** me off so much, however as most of u probably know my car is in real bad shape right now and awaiting repair... toyota said they will sort out all the scratches for me too whilst the front is being fixed and its being serviced, so it should come out of their garage looking near enough brand new!

in the words of my good friend who owns his own bodyshop then the paintwork is crap on all of them

but this is mainly due to the 'mass production' aspects of it all. lacks that human touch and final fettleing to get it perfect

True, but it's nothing compared to the finish on my mate's Alfa 147. Its colour should be called "Orange Peel Black"!

It was only a fiver for the chip touch-up pen for mine from Toyota. I'm going to try and sort the chips at the weekend (and I still haven't touched up the brake callipers and drums... )

I've got a stone "scratch" on my bonnet but apart from that I've not had any problems, and have had a good few stones fly up and hit the paintwork but you cant see any marks at all.
