Dashboard issues

I’m having problems with my Toyota Avensis. When u start it runs well for a short distance then the dashboard suddenly goes blank. Sometimes the engine will be running and you can go a further distance. The dashboard can suddenly light up without any intervention. It can do that 2-3 times then it totally cuts the engine. After a while you can start it but for a short distance before it cuts again.

Have you had the codes read ?, I would also check the connector on the cluster and make sure the terminals and pins are clean
