Jumped into my car this afternoon and it wouldn’t go into gear, managed to get it in reverse and was fine after that, just tried it again and it won’t budge!! Any suggestions?? Also (Mod edit: swearing removed) is the transmission dip stick?!! 2005 Corolla estate

Same thing happens in my corolla t spirit 52 plate, I found if you accelerate and let it spool down you can get it into gear or you sometimes have to let go of the clutch again and redo the manoeuvre, or in some circumstances I've managed to just brute force it out of gear.

It hasn't happened to me since I installed a short shifter so it may be the old bushing

Hope that helps somewhat

Hi,

There is no dip stick on the manual gearbox, just a combined filler / level plug on the front side.

The last manual gearbox I can recall having a dipstick was on my grandad's 1960s Fordson tractor 😃
