Lacking power

Hi all. My 08 D4D is lacking power whenever I try to put my foot down to either go up hill or overtake. it will eventually get up to road speeds but it takes a while! I have only just bought this car so not sure what the engine is (or type it is) so any help on finding this out would be great.

Do you know its service history?

Two things spring to mind: the air filter and/or the fuel filter could need replacing.

The air filter is an easy thing to check.

Hi. It says the service history is hit and miss. I am changing the air filter tomorrow but will look at doing the fuel filter - i have put some red x through recently to see if that helps. Also cleaned the EGR valve etc with some Wynns cleaner.
