temperature gauge not going up

hello,purchased an avensis 2010 diesel in December,not driven it much due to pandemic but have noticed the temperature gauge doesn't seem to go up and sometimes i hear  the radiator fans coming on in short bursts then going off the on again after about 30 seconds,this happens on short/long journeys and hot/normal days,heater works fine,is this normal,other cars iv owned the gauge goes to about half way,thanks

The temperature gauge is supposed to go to the middle. Mine is petrol and it does. Since you have the AD diesel which have known issues, you need the car checked to confirm what is happening with your cooling system. it could be simple airlock, leak, weak pressure radiator cap or worse. 
Let's hope it's not the worse case!
