Anyone know of any good kits for a steering wheel replacement on a Mk1 Yaris? Wanting to get something rather sporty to replace the stock wheel.

The big problem is the airbag, it will put the light on (easy enough to sort) and you need to see what your insurance company say, and if they will even cover it as it's classed as a safety device

you could fit a leather wheel from a high spec car or T sport if you have the basic vinyl one

eg. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-YARIS-2005-1-3-VVT-i-COLOR-EDITION-3DR-STEERING-WHEEL/402382094106?fits=Model%3AYaris%2FVitz&hash=item5dafd77f1a:g:SScAAOSw3ZRfROva

Insurance could be a nail in the coffin for this project. will have to get in touch.

In regards to OEM steering wheels I have the one listed, I'm more looking for an aftermarket one if that helps

Haynes say"

. Disconnect battery -ve lead.

Leave at least 1 minute.

Revove airbag (see below)

Disconnect earth wire at top of steering wheel

Ensure wheels are pointing straight ahead and lock steering wheel in this position

Hold rum, unscrew nut

Remove wheel from splines

Airbag

Lengthy description in Haynes.. Borrow a manual.

Hold rum,

I suppose you need a stiff drink when dealing with airbags 😉

Would any of the later yaris steering wheels fit a t-sport?  I have just bought a Ph 1 T-sport and would be interested in seeing what else could be used.  What about the Ph2 with the steering wheel controls?  How could that be made to fit and the controls to work?  And do the later wheels have the same spline size?

Thanks

unscrew nut

And do not remove completely until the wheel is loose on the column. There have been many broken noses, teeth etc. caused by removing the nut completely and pulling hard on the wheel!

Just picking this up again, would a Mk2 steering wheel fit a Mk1?  Are the splines the same? and is there a harness to connect to the clockspring?

thanks
