Is this rust under the paint?

Hi All,

Can someone tell me what this is please?

This all along the offside sill, not so much on  the near side.

Is this rust or bad workmanship?

Neither.

It is an anti stone chip coating - common on a lot of vehicles, some have it coming up the sill like in your photos, some have it just on the underneath. There to protect the sills from stone chips, etc. We've had the same on Mazdas, Toyotas, Nissans, etc.

phew...thanks Frostyball, got a bit worried, saying to myself how could I have missed that. Its less vissible on the nearside but it all good.
