Hiya, new to the forum. I have an Avensis 2012 with led strip and bulb daylight running light. When the side/headlights are switched on led strips and drl's work both sides. When lights in off position or automatic in daylight ,only o/s led strip and drl bulb  work single flash from n/s then nothing, however when I switch on side lights both sides then work.

Any ideas anyone.

Thanks Danny

Hi flash 22, thanks for your reply sorry for the ignorance but what do you mean by "stork issue"

My guess would be Bob means the "stalk" by which you operate the lights etc.

LOL doing 3 things at once i did indeed meant to type Stalk

All the switching is done on the negative side of the lights through the Stalk the position of the Stalk dictates what circuit(s) are on

The bcm or b-ecu may have got confused (controls the auto lights) disconnecting the Battery for 15 mins may fix it but i doubt it

Could be as simple as a faulty bulb, Avensis with DRL had two types of headlamp:

Bulb type DRL and faux LED strip, this uses a twin filament bulb, a 21w filament for DRL, a 5w filament for sidelight and a plastic light guide which transmits light from the bulb along its length to look like an LED. These DRL have a traditional incandescent Yellow look.

True LED which appear bright white as DRL and dim as side lights.

If you have the more common Bulb type it is quite possible the LH DRL filament has blown but the sidelight filament is still functioning and you need a new bulb, if you have the LED as fitted to the higher spec models the LED is not serviceable and you will need a new headlamp.

The DRL strip on one side of my Avensis used to flash for a second then go off. I managed to convince myself that it had a serious electrical issue and booked it in at a main dealer for investigation under warranty...only for them to tell me in about 5 minutes that the main DRL bulb had blown, they'd replaced the bulb and all was now fine. 😁 The bulb was less than £1 and they didn't even charge me for it.

The DRL strip flashing on for a second on these is a classic sign of the main bulb having blown.
