Dashcam running while parked.

I have a Nextbase 312GW hard wired by Halfords into a 2013 Auris hybrid.

My question is does anybody have their Dashcam running when their vehicle is parked (from the point of view of Battery drainage especially if left on for 2 or more days?

I have had it set up from beginning to turn off when parked/locked but I'm considering leaving it on in future.

I did query this with Nextbase and they said "the Hard Wire Kit will allow the camera to draw nominal current from the car's Battery, preventing the cam's Battery from being drained."  "The kit has an in-built voltage cut off which protects the car's battery from being drained below 11.2V."

However they also recommend using a PERMANENT LIVE FUSE and enabling Parking Mode. I didnt quite understand the comment about enabling parking mode as the car will be completely immobilised when parked in the driveway. (?)

And is a Permanent Live Fuse desirable or absolutely necessary considering I wouldnt know where to get it or where to fit it?

This is from the manual and might explain more:

Parking Mode There are two methods of using parking Mode, which one used is dependent on whether you are using a ‘Permanent Live’ or ‘Switched Live’. Permanent live: This means that there is always 12Vdc being supplied to the Dash Cam. This can either by using a 12Vdc outlet that does not power off when the vehicles ignition is turned off or by using the Nextbase Hardwire Kit which has been installed using a permanent live fuse location. Once Parking Mode has been turned on, the Dash Cam will enter standby mode when there is no physical movement detected for a 5 minute period. Switched live: This method requires the Nextbase 380 Battery pack to provide power to the Dash Cam, as when the vehicles ignition is turned off the 12Vdc outlet will no longer supply power to the Dash Cam. Note: - Without the 380 Battery pack installed Parking Mode will NOT function upon a switched live power supply. When Parking Mode has been turned on, the Dash Cam enters standby mode when the 12Vdc supply has been turned off. Once activated Parking Mode functions in the same way for both Switched and Permanent power supplies:- Should physical movement of the vehicle be detected, the Dash Cam will power on and start recording a 1 minute protected video. If no further physical movement is detected then the Dash Cam will return to standby mode. If physical movement is detected, then the camera will continue to record normally, until no physical movement detected for a 5 minute period, at which point the Dash Cam will return to standby mode. 4

Parking mode is turned on/off from within the app "Cam Viewer"

Thanks for the info.

I think I may have misunderstood the Dashcam parking option. I thought it was to keep it on record all the time but in fact its main purpose is to keep it on standby and only record a 30 second video if it detects physical movement of the car. As parking mode has to be turned off when driving again (and vice versa) I'm not sure its worth all the bother!

But you set it and forget it, just switch the feature on, if somebody nudges your car it records the incident. It might help identify someone who say reverses into you or vandalises your car
