New car first impressions

Hi, my wife got her new Yaris on Wednesday and here is a few of items which may be of interest to prospective buyers.

Her model was the excel in solid white, panoramic roof and light leather ( it’s not real leather) . She’s very pleased with the look 🙈 on getting home, she said it’s not as soft as the demo. She was referring to the demo a design model 16” wheels and different suspension set up.
I will give her credit for spotting the difference in ride comfort. It was 5 weeks ago since the test drive.

I would say the ride is more sporty , steering a bit more direct. Not hot hatch but a step up on the design Suspension set up.

I think for an excel trim level the equipment is a bit short. I have a 2020 excel RAV4 as comparison. Only 1 power take off point and 1 usb. No sat nav . Plus a few other minor things.

Overall quality, well average plus. Could be better.

How does it drive and handle ? Great, love it. Nippy turns sharp, yep very happy. Never ever used Apple car play in my life, daughter uses it all the time. As there’s no sat nav used it today. Works a treat. Plug your phone in and it’s instant.

I had a 160 mile trip to Manchester today, the car had 25 miles on the clock and as motorway is not the natural home of a hybrid I expected mid 50’s. The temp was good 20c and amazingly at the end of my trip 70.7 mpg. I cruise around 65mph and had AC on for a short time. That was way better then expected.

my RAV4 2wd gives me 54 mpg as a comparison.

Overall assessment at a very early stage. Positive, my wife had a 1.33cc Yaris about  6 years ago. Hated the performance, so flat. This hybrid shifts it into the next league.

Would we get another, Yes.

To get the best value I would suggest a design trim level, with a few extras.

I agree it’s not an entirely practical upholstery colour But depends on the use. No kids, pets will be using it so it’s form over function. Any way it’s my wife’s car and it’s her choice.

We ordered a Dynamic with city pack yesterday, but probably won’t get it before the end of October [emoji15][emoji22]

Interesting what was said about the ride as we drove a Design with 16” wheels whereas the Dynamic has 17”[emoji848] we were both very impressed with the car having never even been in a hybrid let alone driven one.

Don’t know anything about Apple CarPlay but I guess it means we can use Wase or google maps to navigate which will be great [emoji848]

Our last Yaris was a 2008 diesel and this car is in a different league to that and even better than my wife’s AYGO [emoji41]
