Android Auto - HUD Navigation?

Does anyone know if there's any way for directions from Google Maps via AA to be displayed via the the HUD? 

If I use the built in sat nav I get next turn instructions in the HUD but when using Google Maps it simply shows a compass as if there's no sat nav being used.

My understanding is that the supplied navigation is designed to integrate with the other Toyota systems such as HUD and the central display (Turns and exits displayed). 

Android Auto uses externally sourced data, so it is restricted to the multimedia system only. It doesn't integrate with the Toyota systems, other than the infotainment system.

I think some other car suppliers do enable their HUD to work for Auto, but even in the USA Entune system, only the Toyota nav system is allowed to display on the HUD or cockpit displays.

VW/Skoda/Seat/Audi also does not integrate AA/CarPlay with HUD/instruments screen.

Hi all,

the strange part is, using integrated GPS, the directions appear on the dashboard and they pop up on the HUD (if nav is enabled on HUD parameters) prior intersections / exits / whatever.

But, when using AA, directions show up on the dashboard too, but never on the HUD.

So, at least, there is a connection at one point between the nav system (whatever you use the integrated one , or one provided by AA / Google Maps or Waze for instance) and dashboard... It looks the HUD only displays some "important" instructions, which AA does not know about.
