Hi can anyone give me some advice about my auto gearbox. Driving tonight I heard a bang then banging like a metal bar Hitting under the car repeatedly and my gearbox packed in no life at all and no gear selection but grinding noise when I put it into park. My car is a Toyota avensis 2011 2.2 auto est 110000 miles

any help much appreciated thank you mylo

Your car has a CVT.

First check for a broken driveshaft/CV joint.

If the driveshafts are intact then maybe that the gearbox has suffered an internal failure. Secondhand replacement would be the way to go...

Jim is right about checking the driveshaft. The auto gearbox on diesels is conventional 6 speed auto. The CVT is only on the petrol engines, not the diesels.

I suspect the driveshaft because the description given. It is the cheaper and quicker fix, so the lesser evil. 🤞

Agreed with the driveshaft diag, maybe be a failed cv joint (tend to fail while turning and pulling away)

If one drive driveshaft fails you will lose all drive
