Buying a 2015 Aygo and I have some questions

Hi Toyota Owners Club

I'll be looking into buying my first Toyota very soon. I've worked at a Toyota dealership for the past four years, but luck has struck me and I now have the opportunity to buy a nice 2015 Aygo with only 49.000 km driven. I've already made myself an ally with the Toyota mechanics and they agree that I've found a good example (X-Play X-Touch) for a real good price (about that, is it correct to call it an X-Play X-Touch? It does say so on the registration but it appears to be two different models when I look it up. It has the big screen on the dashboard, AC and multi function steering wheel).

My question is - I know the AC compressor makes a rather loud click when it engages and I'm fine with that. It seems like it draws some power from the engine when it activates on the motorway / city driving and it does feel like it slows down the car just a bit (just a little more juttery after it engages). Is that normal? Our mechanics said that yeah, it's pretty normal to feel it kick in but not too much.

Thank you for reading!

Cheers

Xplay it the model specs x touch is the dab system

(The x-touch multimedia system uses a seven-inch full-colour touchscreen integrated into the instrument panel. The package includes DAB and a rear-view monitoring system fitted as standard. The main menu has a clear, five-icon layout, offering at-a-glance identification of all functions.)

(The x-play lies at the heart of the AYGO line-up. Its standardised extensive equipment includes air-conditioning, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, height adjustable driver’s seat, adjustable speed limiter, LED rear lights and the x-touch multimedia system with DAB and bluetooth. Options include satellite navigation and Toyota Safety Sense.)

Thank you for the quick and extensive answer! Do all models like mine come with "Mirror screen" or "Mirror link", or was that an optional extra for the 7" models? From what I can tell, it would be able to mirror your phone to the screen, but I'm not sure if my car is equipped with it.

Thank you!

Have you got a link to the aygo

If you have the X-Touch that will have Mirrorlink. However, to use it your phone has to be Mirrorlink compatible, and not all are.

Sadly I do not as it's just a car we've traded in. Thank you a lot for answering my somewhat silly questions. It should be noted that even though I've worked at a Toyota dealership, I've mostly been in our other department that specialises in Fiat and Alfa Romeo which is why I'm coming in short handed on the Aygos.

Thanks! I just googled around and it appears that only Android systems are compatible - how annoying! Time to buy a holder for my phone.

That does look like the screen in the one I'm looking at - thanks! A last question I have is that is it normal for the engines to be ticking just a little more when cold compared to hot? It sounds completely fine at idle and no noises at cold start up, but when you pull away when cold (goes away after the first few minutes), the engine ticks just a bit. Thanks!

Yes that's 100% normal, the AC uses a few HP(PS) and this is only a small engine.

The engine is only 67-71 hp so this would happen

I have just purchased a 15 plate model and noticed exactly the same thing and was going to post the same question about the AC affecting how the car runs.  I noticed that it idled differently and doesn't seem to run as smoothly.  I was thinking about taking it back to the garage but it seems like it is perfectly normal due to the engine size.

Yeah, I've taken a few test drives in it and it definitely rides some percent smoother without the AC on - I guess that's just the life with small engines. Is it normal for the engine to tick just a little bit under acceleration when stone cold? It does stop after a few minutes and it's just a very slight tick - not a knock or anything. I've read the engines are supposed to be a little louder when cold compared to hot, does this fall into such category?

Thank you all for responding!
