Whine from motors

My RAV4 whines when taking off or slowing down. I think this whine is an electrical motor whine 

Is this common on the hybrid?

I ask because I never heard this whine on the hybrid C-HR.

From the OP's profile and their post, they have a 2018 Rav 4 hybrid - 4.4.

Yep, 2018 RAV4 hybrid. It's not anything like a pedestrian warning device. It is a whine from the electric motors when accelerating from a standstill on electric mode only , or when braking on electric mode only.

Most of the Hybrids I've driven have made a fairly quiet electric motor sound when accelerating and slowing.  It's not audible above about 20 mph.

My dealer did once lend me a CH-R Hybrid for a day when they first came out and I do recall it made virtually no noise like this.  Strange, as at the time I had a 2016 Prius which has the same transmission, so I'm not sure why the CH-R was quieter.
