Replacing brake light bulb

Hi guys.  How do I remove the grey square plastic bit so that I can remove the bulb? It won't budge.  I've tried twisting it and pushing it as well.

Give it a twist, unbolting the light cluster from the car usually helps

Thanks. I'll try that. Any idea if I should twist it clockwise or anticlockwise so I'm not forcing it in the wrong direction and end up breaking it? And I've no idea where to unbolt the light cluster. :confused1:

Turn anti-clockwise to release the bulb holder (bayonette fit).
I found this video -

Thank you Konrad. I managed to unlock it by twisting anticlockwise as you suggested. I think I've bought the wrong bulb though. I put my registration plate into the Halfords computer in the shop and it told me I need a 580, and said for Auris 2006 to 20.. and something. But it's too big. I'm sure I've removed the correct bulb from the car,  it's the clip at the furthest end, that's right isn't it? I can take the bulb back. Do you know which I need?

The bulb you have removed looks a lot like a W21W, also known as a 582.

I'm thinking that your old one looks like one of these:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Osram-Original-Equipment-quality-W21W-582/dp/B007RLX6KQ

Those numbers printed on the old bulb should give the clue.

I agree with Gerg. The W21W (582) bulb is a single filament bulb for the brakes only.

Thanks guys.  It turns out their customer computer was wrong. It's a 985 W16w I needed. I got a 50p refund and fitted it and it's all working.  But it doesn't lock securely like my burnt out one.  We tried two and they're both the same. Anyway,  I don't think it's going to fall out.

I recommend buying Osram bulbs as in many cases those are the oem that your car has come out of the factory, they fit best and works longtime. For front light bulbs Philips Long life eco are my personal choice, perfect light, brightness and life.
