Avensis 2015 1.6D MPG?

Hello guys!

I bought Toyota Avensis Business Edition 1.6D 2015y  2 weeks ago. I love this car but there's something that I can't accept. Doesn't matter how and where I drive the best result on MPG I achieved was around 38-39MPG - 7-8L/100km. Is it normal?

Hello, I have a 2016 1.6D. I do a 100 mile a day commute, nearly all on the motorway. I set the cruise at about 65mph and I have averaged around 60mpg over the last 90000 miles.  If I set the cruise at 75mph I get about 54mpg - calculated using an app so quite accurate. When I am not at work and driving locally I get around the same as you maybe slightly more, but it depends on how you drive.

I think the problem is it is a big car, and a small engine and it has to work hard when doing a lot of stop and starts. Saying that, I had the use of a Passat 1.6d for a month before I got the Avensis and I averaged 73mpg on the same commute so I don't think the BMW unit in the Avensis is the most economical
