A coupe is different to a T-top. Seen as you don't want an early mr2, you won't have to bother about it being a coupe (with the 3s-fe engine).

So anything after 1991 will be fine

On coupes, another way of spotting one is if it doesnt have a spoiler, however some people and a few dodgy dealers might try n fool you by putting one on from a later model. Best way is to look in the engine bay as already mentioned.
