Programming a fob from a different Yaris

So, I have a black Yaris for scrap, with the black remote fob/key and the grey slave key. New daily Yaris came with 2 black keys that I'm assuming both have the chip inside as both open/start it but no remote fob for it.

So the question is can I program the black cars fob/key to the new daily  ?

Both are 2001 cars

🙂

Once a key is programmed to a car it cannot be reprogrammed to another

The key isn't programmed to the car, the car is programmed to the key.

Sounds reasonable to me.

We have a security issue here though, but if you have a key and you have a car, they should ................ with the right software and with the security in mind ................ they should be able to be united.

A car gets scrapped.  The keys and locks get scrapped too.

Let's say that the car gets scrapped but the keys and the electronics are salvaged.  How can they be reunited in another vehicle?  It must be possible, so therefore it must be possible to get an "old" key to match up with a "new" car.

Above answers are wrong the key is programmed to the cars ecu, it is possible.
They can either be programmed through Toyota techstream or manually by following the programming procedure which can be found with a quick search.

When pairing a new key, you are instructing the car's ECU to accept the identity of the new key.

Exactly.

The key is only a slave device, but the car's ECU is a computer which can be programmed.
