MPG and trip meter

Hi everyone.

On my 2003 vvti 1.0l petrol Yaris I thought I'd figured out how the average MPG read out works by pressing and holding the trip button. Started off, it was showing 50.8 and I was impressed but almost immediately it dropped to 20, then 9, then an alarming 1.7...and all I was doing was about 40mph in 4th gear. Any idea why this has happened?

Try toggling the switch until it reads 'ave' mpg and not just 'mpg'

Thanks Steven. I'll give it a go tomorrow and report back.
