Hi all,

I own a 1997 carina e.

Recently the speedometer has become faulty. As soon as I start to drive forward or in reverse the speedometer goes upto about 40mph and stays on 40mph despite my real speed. When I stop driving the needle comes back down to zero.

Does the carina e have a cable rather than a speed sensor??

Is it likely a fault within the speedometer itself?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Just to add it's a manual gearbox and the 2.0 diesel engine if that makes any difference
