Avensis low power max 3000rpm

Hello!

My avensis D4D dcat 2.2 diesel (210 000km driven) has lost all its power. The car starts just fine and then idles at 900-1000 rpm steadily without any sudden spikes or drops. When I put it in reverse or 1 gear it feels okay but as I put it in 2nd gear it has almost no power, it will accelerate very slow and won't rev above 3000 rpm. It will not rev above 3000 rpm in neutral either. I have started to suspect it is in some kind of fail safe mode?

There are no fault codes/engine lights ligthning up when I start it or when I drive it. The obd2 scanner won't find any stored or pending codes.

The Egr valve has recently been changed about a month ago and I also cleaned it this weekend to be sure. The inlet manifold has also been cleaned. I have also changed, oil, oilfilter and airfilter. The maf sensor has been cleaned and what I can find shows normal values when idleing. There is no smoke, weird sounds or smell coming from the car. I have read some posts here on the forum and the scv has peaked my interest but I'm uncertain because the car will start directly and it does good in idle. The DPF was changed at 150 000 km

I drive around 1000km per week to and from work so the DPF shouln't be clogging because of low work temperatures.

I did screw up and filled it with 5 litres of petrol some time ago but I mixed it with about 50 litres of diesel. I have since driven 15 000 km without any problem

Any help would be much appriciated.

Sounds like a fuel issue problem with fuel temperature controls sensor on fuel pump this fault will not see on dash board or from plug in tool it's a silent fault we call it so check fuel pressure good and double check ur turbo they do fail too

Also see if the MAF sensor is at fault. Though not common fault on Toyota's, it happens more on VW in the past. Happened to my brothers old Ford Galaxy - no power and acceleration above 2500 rpm. This just a suggestion, but diagnostics may help.

It sounds a lot like dpf problem. My father's old avensis lost all its power. It was because of dpf.

Hej!

Hello!

I found the culprit. The rubber sealing between turbo and turbo air intake hose had gone loose and been sucked in to the turbo, turning to sheds and I guess that is why there are no fault codes or check engine light. I guess the turbo needs some tune up or I must buy a new/used one and refit.

Thank you for the information and fast replies, I really appreciate it. I will certainly turn to the ownersclub in the future for guidance.

Did the turbo also break?

Hej!

Yes I think it is broken. I will check tomorrow but I am missing 80% of the rubber that got sucked in so I am not optimistic that turbo is in the best condition.

Remember the turbo you are mounting must be the same size as the one already in your car.
