Hatch locking problem

Here’s an interesting problem, the hatch on my Auris locks Itself when the engine is started. All the locks work perfectly, as do the buttons on the remote key! I drive down the road, and the hatchback locks itself, needing me to press the remote or unlock switch on the drivers door to open it! I’ve tried pressing and holding the unlock button and turning on the ignition, but this works a couple of times, then reverts to the hatch self locking! I have tried the main dealer, but hesitated to get a computer check, because knowing my luck it will come up with no faults!  I just wondered if anyone had come across this one, and found a solution. Much appreciate any info!

Have you had the car long?

Has it done this all the time you have owned it?

The boot lock itself is electrically operated, so to 'lock' the boot, all that is needed is ti stop the 'unlock' signal that is generated by pressing the boot release button, from doing anything at all.  e.g. If the car Battery is flat, then the boot is permanently locked.

Perhaps there is a chance that the car locking is mode is set in a particular way, (I've not investigated this menu on our car) and this isn't actually a fault, like here:

In the Carista phone app:- https://caristaapp.com/vehicles/toyota/auris/2nd-gen  They give a list of customizations that are possible, but the list may include items that are only configurable in other, non-UK, markets.

On the page for your car, it lists these options :-

If this app lists a mode as doable, then I would think this is also configurable through the Toyota Techstream software that the Toyota dealers use.

Perhaps someone knows if this list is correct?

I've not seen a boot lock fault reported on here yet.  Perhaps one of the techies on the forum knows more?

I haven't had an Auris since 2018 but I'm 99% sure what you describe is a normal function once unlocked the boot can be opened/closed until the car is started/in ready mode and cannot be opened again until the remote unlock button is pressed ( cars without smart entry)  or the boot switch/handle squeezed ( cars with smart entry )

I have also checked and is not a customisable function either by driver or dealer.

Thanks for the info!  I can’t remember it doing this when I first got the car, that’s why I had it down as a fault! It’s a pity there isn’t a reprogrammable fix for it, but knowing it’s not a fault is reassuring! The only fault on this 2013 Auris was the A/C condenser developed a leak! It’s Still got the usual Toyota reliability!
