Brake fluid distributor

Hi all,

My 1996 Toyota Carina E GL estate has failed its M.O.T. over here in France because the small 'distributor/valve' to the rear brakes is faulty. In France I've been searching both new parts stores and breakers for a 'repartiteur freinage' (no luck so far) but I don't know what this is called in English!? I'd like to search the U.K. parts suppliers more effectively. Does anybody know what the technical term is for this part in the u.k. please and if so do you know where I might get one? I've tried finding a diagram of the braking system but so far that has eluded me too, I'm normally good at this but I'm drawing blanks, any help much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi!

I think you might try searching for 'brake pressure proportioning valve',  'brake pressure regulator' or 'brake pressure regulating valve' in English.

I don't know where to start for a replacement part, others probably will - I've never had to replace one.  But I understand that these parts, on other cars, can fail because of a rusted/broken actuating arm, which is a simple mechanical failure.  So a good engineering workshop might be able to repair the old one, if all else fails, perhaps?

Edit:  A quick Google search throws up this site as the first hit (which is "out of stock - more coming in"!), which sounds like they are available with a wait:-

Best of luck!

so just an update, I haven't yet managed to track down a part yet despite a wide search but I do attach two photos, all other brake parts seem to be still available, without this I can't pass the French M.O.T. as the braking system can't produce reliable figures. It would horrible to have to scrap an otherwise healthy vehicle for an unavailable part, any pointers to known Carina E breakers would be great, it wasn't a popular import into France with its petrol engine.

Thanks in advance.
