How many revs is too many?

Hello all

We have 2014 Aygo semi automatic that is used just for small journeys for my wifes work.

I have noticed when the revs are going up to 3000 to 4000 when changing gears.

It sits from 1000 to 2000 when normal driving but should we be  concerned with the high revs at gear changes?

Thanks

Nope, these cars are like that and high revs are normal for 3 cylinder small engines, easily up to 6k rpm while on the go and push a bit more. 👍

Thanks for this.

I did think because it is a 1 litre engine the revs might go higher.

Was going to take it to a garage for a gearbox service as that as some advise we got. But I will leave that just now.

I will keep an eye on it for a while.

Thanks again

As Tony says, these little engines easily go to 6k rpm. I regularly push to 6k, due to an awkward uphill slip road which joins a dual carriageway. Have to do this in 2nd gear, otherwise the long 3rd gear just bogs the car down, if I try in 3rd.

if it changed any sooner it would dead slow ...needs to rev hard because its small /low power

The usual "rule of thumb" is that the revs when changing up a gear should be high enough that after you change gear the engine is at or near peak torque revs - so changing up at 3500-4000rpm is just about right. I've found that going over 5500rpm has very little benefit.
