I have Rav 4 2002 never had problem starting the car until today, the starter motor turns ok, I thought it might be the Battery, I got a jump start of a friend  but it would not start, I took the jump cables of the Battery, got back in the car to give one more try and the car started, so I gave it a good drive for about 15 mins, parked up left it for about 2 hours got back in the car It started first time, drive for about 15 mins got home parked up switched the car off then tried to start it again to make sure it was ok,  but it won't start  anyone know how I can fixe this?

Sounds like the hot start issue - is it the D4D?

If so, I've posted several times on how I fixed this. I'd start by properly cleaning the two earth cable connections, it's free and genuinely 30-45mins effort. Remember, resistance increases with heat so it's not as crazy as it sounds to think this may fix it without changing the starter motor etc.

Please report back on how you get on.

Hi cleaned Battery leads and the the earth straps,

My friend did a diagnostics with a computer the trouble seems to be a crank sensor code P0335,

I have someone else coming today with an up to date computer for a second opinion, It’s not the Battery I bought a new.

Thanks for your help

Hi Dan

Having cleaned both earth straps I assume it hasn't helped? Not wishing to patronise at all, but I assume it was a very thorough clean (some folk go back to bare metal)?

I'm no expert but I'd be surprised if it was a crank sensor as that doesn't sound like something that would only affect the engine when hot - on the other hand if you have been having starting problems it could be a spurious message. I'd be inclined to clear it and see if it reappears.

If the hot start is still an issue, you might like to consider a new starter motor (2KW version).
