Hi

I have just bought Toyota auris 2011 and when I turn the ignition it keeps displaying the message :- Charging system. Message disappears when engine is turned on.

Went back to dealer and they said this is normal message.

Can anyone confirm if this message should be displayed when  car ignition is turned on ?

ThanksIMG_20201028_100531256.thumb.jpg.6dda1288c1289e30ec4e52a20bfcfd14.jpg

It's normal and slightly annoying because it defaults to that after 5 seconds rather than leaving the clock displaying.

To confirm it will keep displaying charging system until the clutch is pressed and car started ?

Thanks

Yes  it will keep displaying until you start the engine or until you press the steering wheel control to change the display but even then it will revert back to the 'charging' message after around 5 seconds.

All normal.

Thanks Molly for your quick response on this.

I have never had Toyota before so all of this is to new to me.

What does the charging system display message mean ?

I understand from other threads that it is only of concern if the messages comes up once in engine is on.

Thanks again.

Than

It seems to be a message to go alongside the old fashioned 'ignition' warning light that illuminates if the alternator is not charging correctly. It doesn't really tell you anything besides that. I suppose one difference is that it is intelligent and does not come on when for example the engine stops due to the Stop/Start cutting in and out.

I find it annoying when setting the clock because with the key in the first position the clock display defaults to this message after only a few seconds and so you can not see  if you have the clock exactly correct unless you keep pressing the steering contol to bring the clock back into focus on the display.

Hi all is the above message normal if you only have the ignition on and the engine not started?

I have it but goes off once I start the car.

Cheers

Very simple way to test. Get a cheap £5 Multimeter or Voltmeter and check the Battery voltage when the engine is On. It should be above 14V. It means the alternator voltage is fine. The current flow is about as linear as the voltage, the higher the voltage, the higher the current flow to the Battery
